Home Hardware’s roots go back to 1964. That year, a small group of hardware retailers felt we could no longer compete profitably using traditional methods of distribution. They decided it would be better for us – and our customers – if we could purchase products directly from the manufacturers and eliminate the wholesale middleman’s profit margin. By combining resources, we could save money through volume purchasing. Repeatedly, the wisdom of that decision has been made evident. Today, just as it has since its inception, Home Hardware is a Dealer-Owned company which operates as a co-operative serving only those who own the company. Competition from U.S. chains, other buying groups and box stores has been met successfully, time and again.

There are Home Dealers, like us, in communities in every part of the country, operating under four different banners: Home Hardware, Home Hardware Building Centre, Home Building Centre and Home Furniture. In all, there are more than 1,000 Home stores supplied by four huge regional Distribution Centres. Our head office is in the small village of St. Jacobs, Ontario, where it all began. Other distribution centres are found in Elmira, Ontario, Wetaskiwin, Alberta, and Debert Nova Scotia.

Home Hardware operates its own fleet of 300 tractor trailers providing the most efficient delivery system in Canada. Orangeville Home Hardware Building Centre receives shipments twice a week. That means that we are never far away from more than 53,000 products, that can be ordered specifically for our customers.

Our store is equipped with a HomeInfo system unique to Home Hardware stores. This system provides complete product information available, including pictures, descriptions, warranty information, and availability, all designed to provide our customers with all the information required to make those important buying decisions. As well as our traditional annual catalogue, we have also developed Home.Cat as a CD electronic consumer catalogue.

Combining the best of both worlds, Home Hardware Building Centres offer a complete range of both hardware store and building centre products. Lumber, tools, paint, plumbing and electrical supplies and an extensive selection of building materials are available, along with housewares, sporting goods, automotive items and lawn & garden supplies.
